Day 175: Minor League, Major Fun!

Spud, tater and Fry get ready to race.

Minor League baseball is my favorite summertime activity, so much more satisfying than Major League Baseball, for me. Maybe it’s the lower prices for tickets and food, or the smaller, more intimate stadiums, or even the fact that we’re watching young men, not multi-millionaires, play a game. Maybe. But I think it has more to do with the family friendly environment, the between innings activities–like this potato race– and the small-town feeling of familiarity and friendliness. I remember very vividly going to baseball games of the Peoria Chiefs and the Kane County Cougars with my very young children; at this game of the Boise Hawks, I was with my daughter, again, but this time she’s a young woman with her own 7 week old daughter! And our granddaughter Mia thoroughly enjoyed her first baseball game.
