Day 127: Big Flag, Big Lawn, Big Bust.

Day 127-8605 Taking advantage of today’s sunshine and warm temperatures we decided to hike the trails above Boise with Hannah Sharp and Mike Sharp. Melinda Hoyt, who likes to keep things on schedule was hopeful that the hike would induce little Mia to enter the world. As of this writing we still wait.
It was, despite many visits to Boise, the first time I’d made it up into the hills outside the city; the views are spectacular! One view that I knew existed, but had never seen was the Simplot Mansion, otherwise known as Idaho’s White Elephant. It is reported to cost $100,000 annually to maintain the lawn (on top of the $58,000 annual housing stipend given to the governor–to live on his own ranch in Star, Idaho), oh, and it’s empty and unused. Did I mention that Idaho ranks 49th in per student spending?
