Pink

On her first day at work, Pink made it clear that she did not want to use the clothes dryer, saying “I trust the sun, not the machine.” (As translated by my Mandarin teacher, Fiona) I went to Ikea and purchased a clothes drying rack (in the department labeled “Balcony”) Pink put the rack on the balcony and dried a load of clothes, despite an AQI of 174. Not wanting our clothes covered in particles of pollutants, I folded the rack and put it in the laundry room. On her next day at work, Pink did another load of laundry and sensing my laowai reluctance to air my laundry –whether dirty or clean– outside, she set up the rack in the spare room off the laundry room. A compromise.
